One Act of Bravery Can Save America

Is your member of Congress up to the task?

WHY THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS ARE SO PIVOTAL:

Imagine the midterm elections. Votes are cast, results are tallied. One of two scenarios plays out:

Scenario #1

Democrats achieve a blue wave. Donald Trump then claims the elections are illegitimate. He and his allies in Congress prevent newly-elected officials from being seated. The government ceases to function properly.

Scenario #2

Trump-friendly Republicans strengthen their majority. Any voice of dissent on either side of the aisle is immediately quashed. American ideals are increasingly eroded through questionable legislation that is effectively unopposed.

The people must act before it’s too late. Every day Trump tries to deepen the divide between Republicans and Democrats. He tries to isolate any who would dissent and makes threats of retaliation if they break rank with him. We must foster courage in Congress to impeach and convict. And we must do it now.

“The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

  • Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution

One act of bravery can make history. Imagine one key Republican voice championing the conviction of a corrupt and reckless president. If the door is open, the Democrats will rally. One unwavering voice will stir others to follow.

In the House of Representatives, 216 votes initiate impeachment proceedings. With Democrat support, fewer than 5 Republican Representative votes are needed to secure the majority.

In the Senate, 67 votes result in conviction after an impeachment trial. With Democrat support, fewer than 25 Republican Senator votes are needed to secure the majority.

This is where we need your help. We’ve identified 8 key constituencies in 7 states with the potential make real change. It’s time to put pressure on Congress where it matters most.

Visit your members of Congress. They are answerable to you. Implore them to take a stand against Trump for the sake of our country. This is not a protest. This is a conversation between constituents and their representatives in government.

Check the key constituencies above.

If you are a constituent in any of these key areas, make a plan to visit your Representative’s or Senators’ offices, locally or in Washington DC. Consider calling ahead to schedule an appointment with the office staff. Visit as frequently as possible. Bring a different friend each time. Help your member of Congress or the office staff understand why Trump’s removal is imperative.

If you are not a constituent in any of these key areas, reach out to people you know who are. Encourage them to participate. Visit them, take them to their local office, and help them begin the conversation.

Speak candidly, firmly, and factually. Speak about your personal experience including how this administration has affected you as an American. Appeal to the issues and special interests of your member of Congress. Address the reasons allowing Donald Trump to remain in power is a problem for you and for Congress.

His destructive decisions both at home and abroad, out-of-control spending, deadly policies, Constitutional overreach, and disregard for law and truth will be felt for generations.

Political officials must have the ability to publicly disagree and vote against the prevailing ideology in their own party. History remembers the courageous.

The process of impeachment and conviction is not an easy road. Proceedings only begin when a majority is established. And a pro-impeachment majority cannot be sustained where there is a culture of fear. This is not democracy.

We chose to focus lobbying efforts on these specific members of Congress because they have historically criticized, broken with, or voted against various Trump policies and actions. They are capable of principled voting and have the power to influence their colleagues in the House and the Senate.

Rather than spread lobbying efforts nationwide with a generalized message, our mission is to work with these key communities, focus pressure where it matters most, and do it before time runs out.

The 25th Amendment outlines the succession of power in the event the President becomes incapacitated, relinquishes duty, or is declared unfit.

Invoking the 25th requires J.D. Vance and a majority of Trump’s Cabinet to agree to submit a written declaration. Assuming Donald Trump rejects the Vice President’s determination, Congress must then vote. First in the House of Representatives, then again in the Senate. Not only does each chamber need a majority, but they each need a two-thirds majority to remove the President.

Removal through impeachment and conviction rests in the hands of Congress alone, whose decisions are answerable to the people.

We are citizens across the political spectrum. We’re individuals, communities, and organizers who truly believe this president will be the downfall of our country.

We aren’t collecting money or online followers. Our focus is dispatching this mission in an effort to make a difference.

We believe impeachment and conviction are the righteous pathway to fixing what’s broken. Impeachment is the peaceful, lawful method that protects our rights and freedoms. Conviction is the just resolution that prevents the American Experiment from ending without our consent.

The world is watching.
